Although the contours of the SIM2 driver are very similar to last year's SIM series, TaylorMade has completely rebuilt the construction of its new 2021 driver around the Forged Ring Construction while keeping the 2020 Shape In Motion Aerodynamics intact. The result is not only a beautifully designed driver, but the new construction also pushes the boundaries in terms of power, control, and especially forgiveness by building a more stable driver. Well done, compliments....
For golfers with low to mid HCP, TaylorMade has the SIM2 driver, maximum power, and somewhat lower ball flight. For mid and high HCP there are the SIM2 Max and SIM2 Max-D versions where more forgiveness and a higher ball flight give a more predictable, controlled ball flight. The D-type has a slightly different balance-setting that makes it easier to hit a Draw or to avoid a Slice. Handy for going safe with your drives.
The 2021 series of TaylorMade SIM2 drivers have a lot of technology integration. Partly new, partly improved from earlier model years. Let's get you up to speed... The Forged Ring Construction involves the new, lightweight, aluminum frame blue!) that is milled into a shape to which a solid back weight is attached. All components are attached to this 'chassis'. The aim of this construction is to create a confident driver designed for greater stability and forgiveness. Then there is the SIM Enertia Generator technique whereby advanced Geometry & Aerodynamic Analytics lowers the center of gravity (CG) for more forgiveness. The Speed Injected Twist Face, introduced 2 years ago, has also been improved. This technology maximizes speed to the permissible limit with the twisted face, which offers forgiveness especially for balls hit on the heel and toe. The long-established Thru-Slot Speed Pocket technology is also back on board, especially to give balls hit low on the face more speed and forgiveness. Finally, Splitt Mass Weighting ensures optimal weight distribution (16 grams of steel on the back), which improves forgiveness and spin. The 460cc clubhead is again constructed of featherweight carbon, which further lowers the center of gravity.
All TaylorMade drivers have an adjustable loft. This allows you to adjust the face angle up to 2 degrees (up or down) at which the ball departs to suit you and your swing. The Torx wrench required for this is supplied with the drivers.
Depending on the flex of the shaft, with the TaylorMade SIM2 drivers, you can choose this Mitsubishi Chemical Tensei AV 60 graphite shaft as standard (semi-high ball flight) (but also with the HZRDUS Smoke RDX graphite shaft for a lower ball flight). The standard grip is the GolfPride Z-Grip with TaylorMade logo.
