They compared statistics from thousands of club head shapes and chose the most effective shape to maximise Game Improving characteristics. In short, the D7 irons are maximally forgiving and accessible to the beginning to intermediate golfer who is looking for a far, somewhat higher ball flight. Real power irons!

Also in the Staff D7 series, Wilson has integrated the Power Holes innovation for more explosiveness and playability. These strategically integrated, Urethane-filled Power Holes provide maximum flexibility for higher ball speeds and an increase in the sweet spot. The larger sweet spot gives you more room to hit the ball not quite cleanly but without it going off course. Handy!
The centre of gravity has also been lowered to an unprecedented level by placing most of the weight in the clubhead below the point of impact. The result is a slightly higher, even more predictable ball flight.
